Scrapyard fire, Stalybridge

The large scrapyard fire in Stalybridge has now been extinguished and firefighters have left the scene.
Three fire engines from Stalybridge, Ashton-Under-Lyne and Hyde, as well as a hydraulic platform and a support fire engine from Oldham attended.
Two hose reel jets were used and crews were at the scene for around two hours and 45 minutes.
We are currently at the scene of a scrapyard fire in Stalybridge.
Crews were called to North End Road at 5.38am today (October 24) and found a fire measuring around 10m by 50m and 10m high.
The fire involves a large quantity of scrap metal from computers and three crews and a hydraulic platform are in attendance.
The fire has is creating a large amount of thick acrid smoke and people in the area are being asked to keep their windows and doors shut.
