Fire GMFRS Tameside

Moorland fire – Stalybridge, Sunday February 17, 2019

Update: 9am Monday, February 18, 2019

Our firefighters have done a fantastic job in bringing the fire on the moors near to Stalybridge under control and putting it out using specialist moorland firefighting equipment.

Investigations will soon be taking place following the blaze which broke out last night shortly after 9pm.

Fire investigators from GMFRS will today work to establish the cause of the fire, working with the local gamekeeper.

Thanks to the incredible hard work from our firefighters this fire is now out. We will shortly be scaling down our involvement at the scene.

Our firefighters, from Ashton, Stalybridge, Oldham, Hyde and Bolton North, used specialist moorland firefighting equipment to bring the blaze, which measured 100m squared, under control and extinguish it.

We were on the scene for approximately two hours. The cause will be looked into in due course.

Firefighters are making every effort to bring the fire on the moors under control this evening using specialist moorland firefighting equipment.

Specialist units and crews from Ashton, Stalybridge, Oldham, Hyde and Bolton North are battling the blaze.

Residents are urged to not call 999 about this incident as we are aware of and dealing with it.

Firefighters are tackling a fire up on the moorlands near to Stalybridge this evening (Sunday, February 17, 2019).

Crews from Ashton and Stalybridge are using specialist moorland firefighting equipment to tackle the blaze.
