Safe Drive Stay Alive
Safe Drive Stay Alive (SDSA)
Safe Drive Stay Alive is a partnership project between Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, North West Ambulance Service, and Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust.
Safe Drive Stay Alive is funded by Safer Roads Greater Manchester (Transport for Greater Manchester)
The project provides the opportunity for young people to attend an emotionally engaging 1.5 hour performance which is delivered in partnership between all emergency services. Performances are based around a series of short, emotive films, and live speakers from each of the emergency services. It also includes presentations from members of families whose lives have been affected by a serious road traffic collision.
Every year we invite all of our Greater Manchester colleges and youth groups to our emotionally engaging performances, where they hear real stories from people affected by Road Traffic Collisions (RTC). We also provide all attending groups with a free follow-up resource pack so that they can further explore the issues raised at the performance.
Due to the emotional nature of the film, and as a duty of care, we have advised colleges that if a student has recently experienced a trauma, from a road traffic collision or another traumatic event, that they should give the student the choice to opt out. We also advise that teaching staff are present to monitor the welfare of students as they watch the film and offer any necessary support afterwards to ensure that their wellbeing is cared for. It would also be great if, after your son or daughter has watched the performance, you discuss any issues the film has raised for them when they return home from college.
If you would like to seek further support for anyone after watching the film, you can visit the website of the charity RoadPeace, www.RoadPeace.org, or call their helpline on 0845 4500 355.
Attendance is completely free of charge and free coach transport is provided.
