Carrington Paper Fire - 29 May 2019

Update 7.20am - 30 May

Firefighters remain at the scene of a fire involving a large stack of paper in Carrington, Trafford. 

Crews were worked through the night to extinguish the flames and the incident has now been scaled back. Two fire engines and a high volume pump remain at the scene. 

Firefighters are expected to be in attendance for at least the rest of today. 

Update 3.45pm - 29 May

Crews are currently tackling a fire involving a large stack of paper in Carrington, Trafford.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service was called to the paper handling yard in Manchester Road shortly after 1pm today (May 29.)

There are currently eight fire engines from across Greater Manchester and Cheshire in attendance as well as a high volume pump, a hose layer and an aerial appliance.

The stack, which measures 25m by 25m and is 10m tall, is well alight and firefighters are using jets and ground monitors to deal with the incident.

People in the area may smell and see smoke and are being asked to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution.

Motorists are also being advised to avoid the area while firefighters deal with the incident as traffic may be slow.
