Lag B'Omer

Celebrate Lag B'Omer safely

If you’re planning to host a traditional bonfire, follow our fire safety advice:

  • Ensure the bonfire is at least 18 metres away from buildings, trees, bushes, fences, overhead cables and car parking areas.
  • Maintain a 5 metre safety barrier for spectators and dancers.
  • Keep the bonfire under 3 metres tall.
  • Only burn clean, dry timber.
  • Do not burn: aerosols, batteries, bottles, foam-filled furniture, tins of paint or tyres.
  • Do not use petrol, paraffin, diesel, white spirit or methylated spirit to light the bonfire – use firelighters instead.
  • Before lighting the bonfire, check that it's structurally sound and that no children or animals are present within or near it.
  • Appoint a responsible individual to light and manage the bonfire, wearing protective, low-flammable clothing.
  • Monitor the bonfire at all times, to ensure it remains controlled.
  • Keep buckets of water or a hose nearby to extinguish the fire in case of an emergency and for damping down after the event.
  • Secure permission for a bonfire from the landowner.

We hope you enjoy a safe and wonderful Lag B'Omer!
