Keep escape routes clear

‘Tis the season to be jolly – but don’t deck the halls!

It is required by law to keep escape routes out of the building clear, to ensure that you everyone can leave the building quickly if there is a fire. If you notice any obstructions in the corridors or communal spaces, report them to your housing provider or managing agent.

Within your own flat, make sure that you keep hallways and doorways clear of clutter including Christmas trees, presents or rubbish so that you can get out quickly if you have to.

Keep your doors closed too – this can help prevent the spread of a fire.

Check for fire hazards in your home before you go to bed.

If there's a fire, don't tackle it yourself - get out, stay out and call 999.
