Stalybridge moorland fire – April 22 2019

Called at 9.52pm yesterday evening (Monday 22 April) to a moorland fire on Shutts Lane, Stalybridge.

Crews from Stalybridge, Manchester Central, Hollins, Bury, Cheadle, Oldham, Whitehill and other specialist vehicles attended the fire involving approximately 150m by 100m moorland area.

Firefighters are using forced air firefighting units, beaters and other specialist equipment to tackle the blaze.

There is no current danger to properties but local residents are encouraged to keep their windows and doors shut as a precaution.

1.40am update

Good progress is being made to tackle the moorland fire.

All visible flame and hotspots are extinguished.

10.30am update Wednesday, April 24, 2019

Regular inspections are taking place at this site and this morning one fire engine is in attendance with firefighters 'damping down' hot spots.

2pm update, Wednesday, April 24, 2019

The fire at this location is now out and GMFRS will carry out inspections on a regular basis as a precautionary measure.
