Simister Lane building fire – Wednesday 5 June
AROUND 70 firefighters are currently tackling a large blaze in Simister Lane, Middleton.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service was called to the commercial property at 3am today (Wednesday 5 June).
There are currently ten fire engines in attendance along with specialist vehicles.
The fire, involving an empty tanker which has spread to an adjacent building, currently measures 10m by 20m.
Firefighters are using four jets and other specialist equipment to tackle the fire.
Update 5.15am
Seven fire engines are now in attendance at this incident.
Firefighters have worked hard to surround the fire and are expected to remain in attendance for the day.
Update 6.30am
Two fire engines remain at the scene and are expected to remain in attendance for the day.
Update 5pm
The fire is now out and fire engines have left the incident. Fire investigation is now underway.
