Atherton winter open day success despite the rain

Atherton open day visitors with North West Blood Bikes

ATHERTON White Watch hosted a winter open day on Saturday, November 12.

Despite the poor weather conditions a steady stream of local community members came to the station to learn more about Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) and partner agencies.

The station was a hub of action for the day with plenty to see and do for all the family.  A GMFRS Technical Response Unit was on hand to demonstrate it's capabilities to visitors and Fire Investigator Mike Dewar and fire dogs Cracker and Echo proved ever popular.

Partner agencies attending included North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) Community First Responders offering CPR sessions and the local Greater Manchester Police (GMP) team demonstrated public order equipment.  North West Blood Bikes, Bolton Mountain Rescue and Highways UK also offered visitors the opportunity to look around their vehicles.

Atherton White Watch Crew Manager Dave Morris said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone that took part in the event – crews, partner agencies and volunteers all played a massive role in making the day such a success.

“Atherton truly is a community fire station and that was evident on the day.  The local youth group who meet weekly provided refreshments and GMFRS Chaplain Lawrence Aboaye ran his regular Saturday church service.

“A big thank you to everyone who came to visit and also for donating to The Fire Fighters Charity – the generosity of the local community has raised around £300 of much needed funds.

“A fantastic day was had by all.”
