Moorland fire, Grains Road, Delph - Tuesday 23 April

UPDATE: 1am, Wednesday 24 April

Around 50 firefighters are currently dealing with a moorland fire at Grains Road, Delph.

The fire service were called at 9.21pm on Tuesday 23 April.

Seven fire engines and two wildfire units are at the scene and crews are working hard to bring the fire, which currently measures 200m x 500m, under control.

All fire fronts have been extinguished and firefighters are dealing with hotspots in the area.

The air unit is also in use and firefighters will remain at the scene throughout the night.

Road closures are in place at:

  • The Sound Road at the junction of Huddersfield Road
  • Denshaw Road at the junction of Delph Lane
  • Grains Road at the junction of King Street
  • Grains Road at the junction of Rippondon Road

The public are advised to stay away from the area.

There is no immediate risk to nearby properties but local residents are advised to keep their doors and windows closed.

Crews have remained at the moorland fire overnight.

Two fire engines are currently at the scene and firefighters are using beaters and a hose reel to tackle remaining hotspot fires.

Two fire engines remain in attendance at this incident with firefighters using beaters and hose reels to tackle the fire.

Road closures remain in place and people are advised to avoid the area.
