Pan fire- Wigan

AT 7.44pm two pumps from Wigan and one from Hindley attended a pan fire on Butler Street, Wigan.

One casualty was rescued by fire fighters. The casualty was given oxygen therapy but declined hospital treatment.

Firefighters used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke and a lock puller to gain entry.

Crews were in attendance for just over one hour.

Firefighters would like to remind people to take care if you need to leave the kitchen whilst cooking. Take pans off the heat or turn them down to avoid risk.

 If your pan catches fire:

  • Don't panic and don't take risks
  • Don't move the pan
  • Never throw water or use a water fire extinguisher on a hot fat fire
  • If it's safe to do so - turn off the heat, but never lean over the pan to reach the controls
  • Leave the kitchen, close the door behind you, tell everyone else in the home to get out and don't go back inside for any reason
  • Call 999
