GREATER Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has received 216 calls over the last 24 hours to 8am this morning, Monday October 17, 2016.

This is a summary of the most newsworthy incidents from overnight.

Hyde Road Construction Blaze

Update 8.19am, October 17, 2016.

Firefighters remain on the scene of last night’s fire on Hyde Road with crew using jets to damp down the site and thermal imaging cameras to check for hot spots in the timber construction.

Due to the nature of the building crew are tackling the blaze from outside and the investigation into the cause will only begin once firefighters can access the structure safety.

Bus and van collide in Salford

At 8.49am on Sunday, October 16, a crew from Salford and a Technical Response Unit from Ashton were called to a road traffic collision on Trinity Way, Salford.

The crew used specialist jacks to stabilise the van and a spine board to aid the extrication of one casualty, who was taken to hospital for precautionary checks.  

Bolton man rescued after his arm gets trapped in industrial mixer

At 12:01 on Sunday, October 16, a crew from Bolton, Hindley and a Technical Response Unit from Ashton were called to an industrial estate on Salop Street, Bolton.

On arrival the crew found a 45-year-old man with his arm trapped in an industrial mixer. Firefighters used a tool kit and specialist cutting tools to free the man who was trapped for around an hour.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital. 

Crew tackle blaze at Stalybridge Labour Club

Shortly after midnight on Monday (October 17) a crew from Stalybridge, Ashton and Hyde were called to Stalybridge Labour Club on Acres Lane.

Four firefighters in breathing apparatus used two hose reels, breaking in gear and a high pressure fan to tackle the blaze and a high pressure fan to clear the smoke.

An investigation in to the cause is ongoing.
