Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has received 209 calls over the last 24 hours, Sunday, October 2, to Monday, October 3, 2016.

Here is a summary of the most newsworthy incidents since the last update.

Lorry fire on M62

At 5.39pm on Sunday October 2 a crew from Rochdale and Heywood were called to a lorry on fire on the M62, eastbound carriageway, junction 21.

Four firefighters in breathing apparatus tackled the blaze involving a tractor unit and generator on the vehicle using hose reels.

The driver was treated for smoke inhalation by a fire service trauma technician, but decline hospital treatment.

Horse rescued from ditch

Shortly after midnight on Monday, October 2, a crew from Leigh and Eccles were called to a horse stuck in a muddy ditch on Newton Road, Lowton.

Firefighters used strops and a general purpose line to pull the animal from the ditch and left it in the care of a vet. The crew were there for around 90 minutes.
