GMFRS received 205 emergency calls from 8am on Wednesday, September 7 to 8am today. Here is a summary of some of the incidents we attended…

RUBBLE FIRE IN SALFORD: We were called at 10.10am on Wednesday, September 7, to a fire involving rubble in a cart at a derelict property in Furness Quay, Salford. Firefighters from Salford, Agecroft and Moss Side attended, using one hose reel and a thermal imaging camera to put the fire out. They were at the scene for 25 minutes.

COOKING FIRE IN RADCLIFFE: At 1.03pm we were called to a fire involving a pan of food on a cooker at Borough Avenue, Radcliffe. Firefighters from Bury, Whitefield and Broughton used two breathing kits, a hose reel, hearth kit and a ventilation fan to put the fire out and clear the smoke. They were at the incident for 45 minutes.

WIGAN ROAD TRAFFIC COLLISION: We were called at 1.24pm to an RTC involving a van and a tree on Chorley Road, Wigan. Cutting equipment was used by firefighters, who released one person from the vehicle. Two fire engines from Wigan, a major rescue unit and technical response unit from Leigh attended and were for an hour.

RUBBISH FIRE IN ASTLEY: At 5.02pm we were called to a fire involving a large amount of rubbish in a detached garage on Higher Green Lane, Astley. Firefighters from Atherton and Leigh used a hose reel and two breathing kits to put the fire out and were on the scene for one hour.

OLDHAM KITCHEN FIRE: We were called at 5.27pm to a fire involving a pan of oil in the kitchen of a mid-terrace house on Villa Road, Oldham. Crew from Oldham and Hollins attended and used four breathing kits, two hose reels and ventilation fan to put the fire out and clear smoke. Firefighters were at the scene for four 40 minutes.

BUILDING FIRE IN ASHTON (ongoing): Firefighters are currently dealing with a fire on Kings Road in Ashton-under-Lyne. We were called at 6.45am this morning, Thursday, September 8, after reports of a fire on both floors of the 25 metre by 30 metre building. Crew have so far used two breathing kits, three jets and a hydraulic platform and have significantly reduced the fire, as of 8.30am. Cordons have been set up and adjoining properties are being checked by fire service personnel. We will report more on this as the incident progresses.
