GMFRS received 180 emergency calls between 8am on Wednesday, September 14 and 8am on Thursday, September 15. Here are some of the incidents we attended...

Crash on M60: At 8.05am on Wedneday, September 14, we were called to a road traffic collision on the M60 between junctions 23 and 24. It was attended by two fire engines from Whitehill and Ashton-under-Lyne, a technical rescue unit and a major rescue unit from Ashton-under-Lyne and they made the scene safe during their 30 minutes on the scene. One casualty was taken to hospital by the ambulance service.

Vehicle fire in Bolton: We were called at 10.37am to a vehicle fire on Moss Bank Way in Bolton. Firefighters from Bolton North and Bolton Central used two breathing kits and one hose reel. The North West Ambulance Service treated one casualty who was suffering with smoke inhalation. Crews were there for 40 minutes.

Dog rescued in Hyde: At 11.12am we were called to a fire in a first floor bedroom of a house on Flowery Field Green, Hyde. Firefighters from Ashton-under-Lyne, Stalybridge, Hyde used six breathing kits, two hose reels and a positive pressure fan in putting the fire out. A dog was rescued from the premises. Crew were at the scene for three hours. We currently don’t have any pictures of the dog.

Food fire in Bolton: We were called to a fire at Southfield Street, Bolton at 11.36am, which involved a pan of food on a cooker in the kitchen of a two-storey domestic property. Firefighters from Farnworth and Bolton Central used two hose reels and four breathing kits to put the fire out and a ventilation fan to clear the smoke. Crew were at the scene for 40 minutes.

Road traffic collision in Wigan: At 2.11pm we were called to a road traffic collision on Billinge Road, Wigan, where one casualty was trapped. Firefighters from Wigan and a technical response unit from Ashton-under-Lyne used hydraulic cutting equipment and a spinal board to cut the casualty out. Two other people had self-rescued prior to crew getting to the scene. All three casualties were taken to hospital by the ambulance service. Crew were at the scene for 55 minutes.

Flat fire in Manchester: We were called at 4.10pm to a fire at a first floor flat on Southcross Road, Manchester. The fire involved oil in the kitchen and firefighters from Withington and Gorton used two breathing kits, one hose reel, a short extension ladder and a ventilation fan to put it out. One casualty was given oxygen therapy and crew were in attendance for 40 minutes.

Substation fire in Trafford Park: At 10.03pm we were called to Guinness Road, Trafford Park, where there was a fire in an industrial substation unit. Firefighters from Stretford and Eccles used four breathing kits, a thermal scanner, thermal imaging camera and safety jet to bring the fire under control. Crew were on the scene for two hours.
