GMFRS received 150 emergency calls over 24 hours between Sunday 8am and Monday, September 26. Here is a summary of some of the incidents we attended...
Cooking fire in Royton: We were called at 1.33pm on Sunday, September 25, to Westridge Chase, Royton where firefighters from Rochdale, Heywood and Oldham dealt with a cooking fire. Crew used two breathing kits, one hose reel, a hearth kit and a ventilation fan. They were at the scene for 25 minutes.
Garage fire in Rochdale: At 2.07pm we were called to Kingsway, Rochdale where there was a fire in an outbuilding. The fire involved rubbish in a domestic garage and firefighters from Rochdale and Oldham used a hose reel and were at the scene for 15 minutes.
Fire in derelict building in Manchester: We were called at 5.12pm to Church Lane, Manchester, where there was a fire on the ground floor of a derelict building. Firefighters from Blackley and Philips Park used four breathing kits, two hose reels and a high pressure lance. Crew were at the scene for one hour and five minutes.
Water rescue in Rochdale: At 6.09pm we were called to Esplanade in Rochdale, and firefighters rescued two youths from the river. The incident was attended by fire engines from Rochdale and Littleborough, together with a water incident unit from Heywood, a technical rescue unit and search and rescue vehicle from Ashton-under-Lyne. Crew used a nine-metre ladder, buoyancy aids and life jackets. North West Ambulance Service also attended. GMFRS staff were at the scene for 15 minutes.
Paper fire in Oldham: We were called at 6.50pm to Byron Street, Oldham, where there was a fire involving paper on the first floor of a building. Firefighters from Oldham and Chadderton used a hose reel and were at the scene for 40 minutes.
