Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended 29 incidents between 8am and 5.30pm, Friday January 5. Read about a kitchen fire and a car fire below.

Kitchen fire, Wigan

At 8.51am two fire engines from Wigan were deployed to Normanby Street in Wigan to reports of an incident in a domestic kitchen.

On arrival crews found the cause to be a faulty microwave in the kitchen of a semi-detached house.

With the owner in attendance GMFRS used forcible entry tools to access the room and cleared smoke using a ventilation fan, before removing the microwave from the property.

Crews were in attendance for approximately 40 minutes.

Car fire, Failsworth

At 11.47am GMFRS were alerted to a car on fire on Oldham Road in Failsworth. One engine from Oldham attended the scene, with the fire believed to have started from a fault in the car’s engine compartment.

A firefighter, in breathing apparatus and using a high pressure hose, extinguished the fire while Greater Manchester Police managed traffic.

The fire crew were on the scene for roughly one hour and 10 minutes.
