Incident Date: 11 June 2016
FIREFIGHTERS are currently tackling a number of floods after Greater Manchester was battered by heavy rain this afternoon.
One particular incident on Fulmar drive, on the Sheerwater Road Estate, Offerton, which we were called to at 4pm affected the electrics in around 15 properties.
Firefighters are currently carrying out inspections on all affected buildings ensuring local residents are safe, as the water level reduces due to improving weather conditions.
Smaller floods have occurred around the Sheerwater Road Estate but firefighters are now treating this as one big incident.
Several roads in the area have been closed as a result and we are advising the public to avoid travelling through the area if possible.
A number of appliances are in use, including a high volume pump from Bolton. Crews are continuing to isolate electrical problems and clear drains to allow the water to naturally subside.
Group Manager Ben Levy who is at the scene said: “at the peak of the floods we had 18 appliances deployed around the county, mostly in the Stockport, Marple and Offerton areas. Crews have worked hard to support local communities impacted by heavy rain and to assist our neighbours, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service”.
We would like to advise anyone travelling in these hazardous conditions to take extra care on the roads.
