One fire engine is still in attendance at the commercial property fire in Cheetham Hill Road, Manchester. Firefighters are continuing to dampen down the property and clear smoke in the basement. Fire investigation officers are on the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
The fire service are working closely with Greater Manchester Police and have scaled down cordons around the incident. One lane on Cheetham Hill Road has now been reopened.
Officer in Charge, Group Manager Val Hussain said: “The initial crews in attendance faced a severe fire at a commercial property but firefighters worked tirelessly to get the fire under control and prevented further fire spread.
“Accessing the first floor of the property was a challenge for firefighters due to restricted access but thanks to their hard work, we quickly got the fire under control and were able to clear smoke from the property.
"Adjoining properties were evacuated as a precaution and have now been let back into their homes.
“I would like to thank all of the crews who worked tirelessly at this challenging incident this morning and the support from our partner agencies in making the area safe and getting the roads reopened in time for this morning’s rush hour.”
AT 3:13am on Tuesday, June 12, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were called to a fire at a mid-terraced commercial property in Cheetham Hill Road, Manchester.
Ten fire engines and specialist units attended the incident involving two floors of the property measuring 8metres by 10metres.
Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reels and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the flames. The fire is now out and the incident is scaling down. Crews are working to clear the smoke in the property.
Bury Old Road/Cheetham Hill Road is closed between Middleton Road and Heath Street while crews deal with the incident.
