Bolton College fire - Friday, January 26

Borough: Bolton

Incident Date: 26 January 2018

STUDENTS at Bolton College have been evacuated following a fire in the hair and beauty area of the building this morning (Friday, January 26).

Lee Coleman, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service Borough Manager for Bolton, was in charge of the incident.

Lee said: “Everybody has been accounted for thanks to the excellent work from our firefighters. Bolton College are contacting parents of students to make sure they can all go home safely, as the college will be shut for the rest of the day.

“We are working closely with the college to help some students retrieve their belongings from inside so they can go home.

“Our firefighters did a fantastic job to contain the fire and deal with it so quickly. The fire did cause a significant amount of smoke which has affected floors throughout the building and we are working to clear this.”

The fire started in the hair and beauty area of the college, with fire engines from Bolton Central and Farnworth arriving within minutes.
