GMFRS helping keep people safe over bank holiday weekend
FIREFIGHTERS and volunteers from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) will be out and about on the moors over the Early May bank holiday to help prevent moorland fires from breaking out and keep people safe.
GMFRS will have a presence over the long weekend at popular beauty spots including Winter Hill, Dovestones Reservoir and Stanedge Cutting – so if you see us please come and have a chat and we will be more than happy to share safety information and advice with you.
To help prevent moorland fires and keep the countryside safe, advice from GMFRS includes:
- Do not take barbecues onto the moors
- Do not light any kind of fire on the moors
- Don't discard cigarettes or matches whilst walking or driving through the countryside
- Report any evidence of illegal fire setting activity to Crime Stoppers – 0800 555 111
