
Firefighters tackle blaze involving heavy goods vehicles in Wythenshawe

Crews from across Greater Manchester were called to attend a large fire involving heavy goods vehicles and a commercial unit in Wythenshawe on Sunday, 23 February.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said:
“Shortly after 8.15am on Sunday 23 February, fire engines and specialist appliances from across Greater Manchester were called to attend a fire involving heavy goods vehicles and a commercial unit on Caldey Road, Manchester.
“Crews arrived quickly and extinguished the fire using hose reel jets, an aerial ladder and other specialist equipment.
“Several nearby properties were evacuated due to the amount of smoke but the residents affected have all now returned to their homes with the assistance of Greater Manchester Police. The road closures that were in place have also been lifted.
“The incident has been scaled back but firefighters remain in attendance.”
