Area Manager and Head of Service Delivery Paula Lyons said: “At approximately 11am this morning, we were mobilised to reports of an explosion. We mobilised our predetermined attendance for this type of incident and on arrival crews were met with a fully evolved fire and a partial collapse.

“We have worked extensively with our other blue light partners and other agencies to resolve this incident, and we will continue to work into the night and the coming days to ensure a successful resolution and to hopefully get residents back into their properties as soon as possible.”

“We can confirm one person was taken to hospital and remains in hospital, and our thoughts are with that person and everyone involved at this time.

“It is undetermined as to what caused the explosion currently but we will continue to work with partners and Greater Manchester Police to determine that cause.

“Currently all of the terraced properties have been evacuated, and we’re working with Bury Council to get people back into their properties as soon as possible.”
