Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service’s new Safe and Well visits were officially launched with an event at Manchester Central Fire Station on Monday, November 2.
Assistant County Fire Officer Geoff Harris and Community Safety Advisor Sue Mallinson (both pictured above) gave interviews to the media, as they explained how the first roll out of the visits will concentrate on winter health in conjunction with Public Health England.
Safe and Well visits are replacing Home Safety Checks and will see staff offering advice, making interventions and directing people to partner agencies on issues of health and crime prevention, as well as our traditional fire safety work.
As part of a Public Health England initiative staff will be visiting vulnerable people this winter, concentrating on risks regarding falls, cold homes, social isolation and flu inoculations. GMFRS is one of three fire services nation-wide to be selected by PHE to take part.
