VOLUNTEERS for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) and their achievements will be celebrated at a special thank-you event this Saturday, June 6, 2015.
Since the GMFRS Volunteer Scheme began in 2008 volunteers have donated over 200,000 hours to the Service.
The event at the Service’s Training and Development Centre in Manchester will see a host of speakers and workshops being held before an award ceremony for volunteers in the afternoon.
The conference is the culmination of a week of activities which will be held across Greater Manchester to celebrate National Volunteering Week.
Chair of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority, Councillor David Acton, said: “Our volunteering scheme has gone from strength to strength.
“We have group of extremely dedicated people who perform roles from community safety and looking after our caged soccer units to the vital work our Post Incident Teams carry out.
“This week is about saying thank-you to these fantastic people and celebrating the wonderful work they carry out to serve of the people of Greater Manchester.
“GMFRS has created a long-lasting pathway of skills development and by joining us as a volunteer your opportunities really could be endless”
This week volunteers across Greater Manchester have been taking part in a road show holding events in each of the ten boroughs which make up the county.
On Tuesday, June 2, volunteers from Manchester took the GMFRS Community Event vehicle to the centre of Manchester to shout about the great work they do.
Volunteer Co-Ordinator for Manchester, Claire Nicholls, said: “It was an excellent day for our volunteers in the centre of Manchester.
“Our community safety staff joined forces with them and we managed to give people lots of fire safety advice as well as shouting about the great work our volunteers do.
“Our mascot Cracker the fire dog was on hand too- he had a great time in his special volunteer T-shirt.”
