Wood burner incident – Horwich
At 9.20am on Tuesday, Jan 3, fire crews from Horwich and Bolton were called to a fire at a terraced property in Dickinson Street, Horwich.
Smoke was issuing from the rear of a property and firefighters forced entry to discover a small fire involving wood next to a wood burner in the living room of the house.
The resident had left the house but the wood burner was still going in the living room. About 15 minutes later a neighbour heard the smoke alarm and looked inside the house to find the ground floor filling up with smoke.
They immediately called the fire service and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to extinguish the fire and high pressure fans were used to clear smoke. The incident was dealt with just before 10am.
There was no permanent damage caused to the house.
The fire started owing to radiated heat from the burner causing wooden blocks next to it to start to burn.
