Weekend incidents - Sunday, August 6

Incident Date: 06 August 2017

BETWEEN 5.30pm on Friday, August 4, and 8.30am on Monday, August 7, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were called to 245 incidents.

Property fire - Droylsden

AT 00:45am on Sunday, August 6, three crews from Philips Park, Ashton-Under-Lyne and Gorton attended a fire in Edge Lane, Droylsden.

On arrival crews discovered a fire involving a fence and wheelie bin which had spread to the ground floor annex of a domestic property.

Crews wearing four breathing apparatus used two hose reels and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the flames.

The cause of the fire was deliberate. Crews were in attendance for one hour and ten minutes.

Building fire – Bolton

AT 2:02am on Sunday, August 6, three crews from Bolton Central and Bolton North attended a fire in the roof of a single story building in Leonard Street, Bolton.

Firefighters wearing two breathing apparatus used one hose reel, one ultra-high lance, two roof ladders, one short extension ladder, ceiling hook, breaking in gear, tools and lighting to extinguish the flames.

The cause of the fire was accidental and is believed to be caused by an electrical fault and spread to roof structure. Crews were in attendance for two hours and twenty minutes.

Garage fire – Cheadle Hulme

AT 4:37pm on Sunday, August 6, three crews from Cheadle, Stockport and Wilmslow attended a fire in Longmeadow Cheadle Hulme.

On arrival crews discovered a fire involving a light fitting in a domestic garage. Firefighters wearing two breathing apparatus used one hose reel jet to extinguish the flames.

Crews were on the scene for approximately forty minutes.

Chip pan fire – Beswick

AT 6:40pm on Sunday, August 6, three crews from Philips Park, Gorton and Manchester Central attended a chip pan fire in Eastern Bypass, Beswick.

Firefighters used a dry powder extinguisher and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the flames.

The cause of the fire was accidental. Crews were in attendance for approximately 50 minutes.

RTC - Radcliffe

AT 6:53pm on Sunday, August 6, two crews from Whitefield and Farnworth and two specialist appliances from Ashton-Under-Lyne attended a road traffic collision involving one bus and two vehicles in Bolton Road, Radcliffe.   

Firefighters rescued one casualty using step chocks, cutting equipment and trauma equipment. The casualty was then taken to hospital by the ambulance service.

Crews were in attendance for one hour and ten minutes.

Electrical fire - Manchester

AT 11:22pm on Sunday, August 6, three crews from Wythenshawe and Altrincham attended a house fire in Leven Walk, Manchester.

On arrival, crews discovered a fire involving an electrical socket in a first floor bedroom of a domestic property.

Crews wearing two breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using one hose reel, a short extension ladder, dry powder extinguisher and a ventilation fan.

Two casualties were treated for smoke inhalation. Firefighters were in attendance for forty five minutes.
