Weekend incidents – Saturday, February 25, 2017

BETWEEN the hours of 5.30pm on Friday, February 24 and 8.30am on Monday, February 27, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service received 324 calls and attended 185 incidents.

 

Road traffic collision – Manchester

AT 5.07am on Saturday, February 25, two crews from Wythenshawe and a technical response unit and major response unit from Ashton attended a road traffic collision on Hall Lane, Manchester.

On arrival firefighters found a collision involving two cars, with one trapped. The casualty was extracted using road traffic collision gear and a spine road.

Crews also used a thermal imaging camera and were on the scene for approximately one hour.

 

Flat fire – Salford

SIX crews from Salford, Agecroft, Manchester Central, Broughton, Stretford and Moss Side along with a command unit from Rochdale, command support unit from Atherton and a major rescue unit and technical response unit from Ashton were called to a flat fire in Sycamore Court, Salford at 12.20pm on Saturday, February 25.

On arrival crews found a fire in a second floor flat and rescued one casualty, who had been given survival advice by North West Fire Control, before paramedics treated the casualty for smoke inhalation.

Two casualties who had escaped the fire before crews arrived were checked over by crews in attendance.

Firefighters used eight breathing apparatus, one main jet, one covering safety jet, positive pressure fans and thermal imaging cameras to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire was deliberate.

Crews were at the scene for approximately three and a half hours.

 

Road traffic collision – Manchester

AT 9.29pm on Saturday, February 25, two crews from Philips Park and Gorton were called to a road traffic collision on Ashton New Road, Manchester.

Crews found three vehicles involved in the collision with one casualty trapped. Crews used cutting gear and chocks to free the casualty.

One other casualty had removed themselves from the car. Both casualties were taken to hospital.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately one hour.

 

 

Road traffic collision – Altrincham

TWO crews from Wythenshawe and a technical rescue unit and a technical response unit from Ashton attended a road traffic collision on Thorley Lane, Altrincham, at 10.51pm on Saturday, February 25.

Crews used a Dewalt saw and cutting gear to move a casualty from the collision onto a spinal board.

The casualty was taken to hospital by ambulance crews.

Firefighters were in attendance for forty minutes.
