Weekend incidents - Saturday, August 5

Incident Date: 05 August 2017

BETWEEN 5.30pm on Friday, August 4, and 8.30am on Monday, August 7, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were called to 245 incidents.

Commercial building fire – Worsley

AT 10am on Saturday, August 5, three crews from Farnworth and Bolton North attended a fire at a commercial in Highfield Industrial estate, Little Hulton, Worsley.

Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera, a dewalt saw, triple extension ladder, hearth kit, breaking in gear and a high pressure lance to gain access and extinguish the flames.

The cause of the fire was accidental and due to a buildup on lint in the cavity of the walls in the laundry room. Crews carried out a safe and well check and ensured the lint from the dryers was removed.

Crews were in attendance for two hours and forty minutes.

Chip pan fire - Salford

AT 2:33pm on Saturday, August 5, three crews from Manchester Central and Moss Side attended a flat fire in John Street, Salford.

On arrival, crews discovered a fire involving an unattended pan of oil in the kitchen of a flat.

Firefighters wearing two breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using one hose reel, one jet, a thermal imagine camera and a positive pressure ventilation fan.

The cause of the fire was accidental. Crews were in attendance for thirty five minutes.

RTC - Worsley

AT 3:48pm on Saturday, August 5, two crews from Farnworth and the major response unit and the technical response unit from Leigh attended a road traffic collision on High Street, Worsley.

Firefighters rescued one person from the collision involving two cars using a longboard and stabfast. They were then taken to hospital by the ambulance service.

Crews were in attendance for fifty minutes.

Kitchen fire – Tyldesley

AT 3:51pm on Saturday, August 5, three crews from Atherton, Agecroft and Eccles attended a kitchen fire at a commercial building in Sale Lane, Tyldesley.

On arrival crews discovered a fire involving an unattended frying pan in the kitchen. The fire spread to two other deep fat fryers.  Crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using two hose reels, one lance and a positive pressure ventilation fan.

The cause of the fire was accidental. Crews were in attendance for approximately one hour.

House fire – Tottington

AT 4:33pm on Saturday, August 5, three crews from Ramsbottom, Whitefield and Bolton North attended a fire involving a flat roof of a semi-detached dwelling in Prenton Way, Tottington.

Crews extinguished the flames using one hose reel, short extension ladder and a thermal imaging camera.

Firefighters were in attendance for approximately one hour and ten minutes.

House fire – Bramhall

AT 5:43pm on Saturday, August 4, three crews from Stockport, Cheadle and Whitehill attended a house fire in Bramhall Lane South, Bramhall.

On arrival, crews discovered a fire involving in the loft conversion of a demi-detached property. Firefighters wearing four breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using two hose reels and a positive pressure ventilation fan.

The cause of the fire was accidental and was due to an unattended incense burner. One casualty was given a precautionary check by paramedics.  

Crews were in attendance for one hour and forty minutes.
