Weekend incidents - Saturday, April 22

Incident Date: 22 April 2017

Between 5.30pm on Friday, April 21, and 8.30am on Monday, April 24, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service received 602 calls and attended 335 incidents.

Find details of some incidents firefighters attended below:

House fire – Manchester

AT 2.53am on Saturday, April 22, four crews from Manchester Central, Moss Side and Philips Park were called to a fire at a flat on Aytoun Street, Manchester.

On arrival crews found a fire involving insulation in a cupboard and used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel, a positive pressure fan and a short ladder to extinguish it.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately one hour.

 

HGV fire – Prestwich

AT 12.45pm on Saturday, April 22, two crews from Broughton and Heywood were called to an HGV on fire on Bury New Road, Prestwich.

On arrival crews found the rear axle on fire and used a dry powder extinguisher, a hose reel and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters were on the scene for less than an hour.

 

House fire – Worsley

THREE crews from Farnworth and Bolton and two technical rescue units from Leigh were called to a fire in the roof of a semi-detached house on West Way, Little Hulton, at 1.06pm on Saturday, April 22.

Crews used four breathing apparatus, two hose reels, a thermal imaging camera and a specialist fan to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire was accidental.

Firefighters were in attendance for two hours and 45 minutes.

 

House fire – Crumpsall

AT 3.36pm on Saturday, April 22, three crews from Broughton, Ashton and Manchester Central were called to a fire at a mid-terraced house on Fraser Road, Crumpsall.

Crews found a fire on the first floor and used four breathing apparatus, two hose reels, breaking in gear, a thermal imaging camera and a specialist fan to extinguish it.

One casualty was taken to hospital by ambulance crews.

Firefighters were in attendance for four hours.

 

Kitchen fire – Manchester

THREE crews from Moss Side and Salford were called to a fire at a mid-terraced house on Bury Street, Manchester, at 4.38pm on Saturday, April 22.

On arrival crews found a fire in the kitchen and used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel and a specialist fan to extinguish it.

One casualty was treated with oxygen at the scene by a fire service trauma technician.

The cause of the fire was accidental

Building fire – Worsley

AT 11.55pm on Saturday, April 22, two crews from Farnworth were called to a building fire on Wicheaves Crescent, Worsley.

On arrival crews found a garden shed alight which had spread to the back door a semi-detached house. Crews used two breathing apparatus and a hose reel to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire was deliberate.

Firefighters were on the scene for 55 minutes.
