INVESTIGATIONS are underway following a large fire in east Manchester.
Around 50 firefighters and officers from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) were called to Clayton Lane after a fire broke out involving industrial property on Sunday, April 5, 2015 at 4.12pm.
The blaze involved a number of pallets, containers and a warehouse and caused a huge smoke plume to billow over parts of Greater Manchester resulting in local residents being asked to keep their doors and windows closed and stay indoors if possible.
Crew used a variety of water jets to bring the fire under control with a small number of firefighters remaining in attendance through the night and on the morning of Monday, April 6.
Firefighters have now left the incident and GMFRS is working to establish the cause of the blaze.
GMFRS is working with the Environment Agency following reports of foam appearing in nearby water following the incident.
