People travelling through Manchester this morning are being advised to avoid the city centre because of an ongoing fire.
The fire, inside a commercial building in Nicholas Street in Chinatown started just before 2.15am and firefighters are still on the scene.
Transport for Greater Manchester are already reporting congestion through the city centre with Portland Street being closed and with bus services being affected.
Their website has this update - “Bus services are being affected by a building fire on Portland Street in Manchester city centre, which has closed the route between Charlotte Street and Princess Street.
As a result of the closure, Stagecoach services are currently unable to serve Piccadilly Gardens. Their 100 service is running to and from Chepstow Street, while all their other services are running to the Oxford Street / Portland Street junction.
First Manchester’s 41 and 42 services are also unable to access the gardens, and are also running to Oxford Street / Portland Street.”
Please avoid the area. More updates will be on our twitter feed @manchesterfire throughout the morning.
