GREATER Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) has received 187 calls over the last 24 hours and this is the most newsworthy incident from overnight.

Man rescued from Wythenshawe kitchen blaze  

At 8.34pm on Tuesday, October 4, two fire engines from Wythenshawe were called to a fire on Mottershead Road, Manchester, following reports of a fire in a kitchen. 

Firefighters in breathing apparatus used a foam extinguisher to extinguisher the fire, which began in an unattended deep fat fryer on an electric hob.

A 77-year-old man was treated by a GMFRS Trauma Technician and taken to hospital for precautionary checks by paramedics.
