Borough: Tameside

Incident Date: 09 March 2017

Fire on Cricket Street, Tameside

Over 50 firefighters have spent the night fighting a fire in Cricket Street, Denton.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service was called to an industrial building in Denton, Tameside, just after 2.10am (Thursday, March 9th, 2017).

Initially two fire engines raced to the scene, upon seeing the scale of the fire this was increased to seven. Currently there are a total nine fire engines from across Greater Manchester at the incident, along with the Incident Command Unit, an aerial platform and the Technical Response Unit.

Residents in the area have been asked to close their doors and windows, as a precaution, while crew tackle the blaze.

Incident Commander, Dean Nankivell, said: “Firefighters have done a great job at containing a fierce fire in an industrial unit. The quick thinking actions of the crew who first arrived meant we were able to contain the fire to one building. We currently have firefighters in breathing apparatus inside the building, damping down.

We are also clearing smoke from the building, so ask residents in the local area to be vigilant and keep their doors and windows closed.”
