House fire in Bolton

At 12:29 three fire engines from Bolton Central, Bolton North and Atherton attended a fire at a domestic property on Shepherd Cross Street in Bolton.  The fire was located in the front bedroom of the terraced property and firefighters used two hose, four breathing apparatus, a gas detector and a positive pressure ventilation fan to control the fire, which lasted an hour.

Chip pan fire in Manchester

At 16:00 three fire engines from Manchester Central, Phillips Park and Blackley were mobilised to a house fire at Kingsbridge Road in Manchester.  Firefighters used one hose reel, two breathing apparatus, and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the fire, which was caused by a chip pan.  All persons were accounted for and one casualty was treated by fire service personnel.  The casualty was suffering smoke inhalation and was assessed by North West Ambulance Service

We’d like to use this as an opportunity to highlight the dangers of chip pans.  We would encourage people to take extra care when cooking and where possible to stop using chip pans and to switch to safer alternatives.
