Animal rescue - Denton
At 3.38pm on Friday, Jan 13, crews from Hyde and Heywood, along with four special rescue fire crews from Ashton and Leigh and a boat from Heywood, were called to an animal rescue in Ross Lave Lane, Denton.
Firefighters were met with a horse stuck in a pond with numerous members of the public attempting to rescue it.
Crews used large animal rescue hear and lines to rescue the horse safely. They were on the scene for three hours.
Kitchen fire - Manchester
At 10.18pm on Friday, Jan 13, three crews from Moss Side and Withington were called to a residential property fire in Wilmslow Road, Manchester.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels and dry powder extinguisher to put out a kitchen fire. High pressured fans were then used to ventilate the property.
The fire started when cooking was left unattended, resulting in a small fire on the hob of an electric cooker. The fire was confined to a communal kitchen belonging to students on the first floor of the property. No one was involved in the fire.
The cause was accidental and crews were at the scene until 11pm.
Bedroom fire – Aspull
At 11.43pm on Friday, Jan 13, three crews from Wigan and Hindley were called to a fire in Cale Lane, Aspull.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel to extinguish a fire in a bedroom. One male casualty suffered burns and firefighters administered first aid. He was not taken to hospital.
The fire started accidentally – believed to have involved a battery charger for a model boat.
Crews extinguished the fire within 15 minutes and spent 40 minutes at the scene.
