House fire- Salford
At 6.55am on Thursday (Oct 27) three crews from Farnworth and Agecroft were called to a house fire in Dales Grove, Worsley.
Crews arrived to discover a fire involving the ground floor of a semi-detached house.
Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reels to extinguish the fire in the front room. Positive pressure ventilation fans were used to clear smoke and thermal imaging cameras to check for hotspots.
One male casualty was taken to hospital by ambulance to be treated for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire was accidental, by electrical.
Station Manager Jim Bridge said: “The fire started in the front living room on the ground floor of the property and has caused serious fire damage to this room.
“This was a well-developed fire in that one room and crews did a fantastic job from stopping it spreading to the rest of the property and as a result, it is just smoke damage that has been caused to the rest of the house.
“We believe the smoke alarm raised the alarm of the resident living inside, allowing him to get out before we arrived – just another example of how smoke alarms can save lives. This situation could have been very different had the resident not had a working alarm.”
