Firefighters tackle kitchen fire in Leigh

Borough: Wigan

Incident Date: 13 January 2017

FIREFIGHTERS tackled a kitchen fire in Leigh today (Friday February, 13) which was accidentally started by faulty electrics on a fridge-freezer.

Three fire engines from Leigh, Hindley and Bolton attended the fire on Wordsworth Avenue just after 11.30 this morning and extinguished the blaze which gutted the entire kitchen.

The fire didn't spread through the house, due to the occupiers shutting the door to the kitchen which helped to contain the damage.

A mother and her four children were in the house when the fire started and three of them were treated with oxygen by North West Ambulance Service and taken to hospital.

Fire Service staff were on the scene for just over two hours.
