Firefighters tackle floods after heavy rainfall

Borough: All boroughs

Incident Date: 10 June 2016

FIREFIGHTERS have been called to a number of flooding incidents today after heavy rainfall in parts of Greater Manchester.

Between 4pm and 4.30pm 36 calls were made to North West Fire Control.  This includes duplicate calls and firefighters attended 10 of these.

Oldham, Rochdale and Failsworth have all been affected, but one incident in particular at Springwood Hall, Oldham Road in Ashton-Under-Lyne required extra attention.

At 3:34pm fifteen ground floor flats were submerged in approximately one meter of rain water and a lady and child have been assisted to safety by fire crews.

Fortunately there were no reports of casualties and no medical assistance was required.

Firefighters are now pumping water from the building and advising occupants. We would like to use this as an opportunity to remind everyone to drive safe in the hazardous conditions.
