Firefighters have been tackling a blaze on an industrial site in Gorton through the night. GMFRS were called to the incident at 00.40hrs on the morning of Sunday, November 20. The fire at the commercial premises in Vaughan Street started at the back of the property amongst discarded materials used to make beds and mattresses.
Fire engines from Gorton, Philips Park and Manchester Central attended the fire, along with an aerial platform and support fire engine from Whitehill and a command support unit and support fire engine from Hyde.
Group Manager Phil Nelson, who attended the incident said – “The location of the fire meant that there were many other businesses and buildings that could have been seriously affected, but the excellent and professional work of the crews meant that the fire was contained to the one building.”
Firefighters used two jets, one aerial ladder platform, breaking in gear and one thermal imaging camera to fight the fire.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown and under investigation.
