Candle fire - Radcliffe

Borough: Bury

Incident Date: 20 October 2016

Candle fire – Radcliffe

At 8.51pm on Thursday (Oct 20) three fire engines from Blackley, Farnworth and Heywood were called to a fire in Rossall Avenue, Radcliffe.

A neighbour called 999 after hearing smoke alarms sounding in the next door property. No one was in the affected property at the time of the incident.

A fire contained to a candle on a window sill was extinguished by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using a hose reel.

Crews were on scene for about one hour and the cause of the fire was accidental.

A GMFRS spokesman said: “Smoke alarms save lives and properties and in this case, a working smoke alarm really did save the day. Please make sure you have working smoke alarms on each floor of your property and they are tested regularly.”
