Building fire – Stockport
At 6.54am on Thursday (Oct 27) crews were called to a building fire in Oakwood Road, Romiley, Stockport.
Firefighters arrived to find a fire involving timber-framed properties that were under construction.
Six fire engines and other fire service vehicles are currently on scene tackling the fire and protecting surrounding buildings.
The fire is under control and crews are continuing to extinguish it with water, pumped from a nearby canal. The incident is soon to be scaled down with some crews returning to their stations.
The area involved in the incident is a site under construction involving 11 properties.
Station Manager Pat Johnson said: “The majority of the fire is now out and firefighters will continue to dampen down hotspots throughout the morning. The entire site has been destroyed by fire and once the incident has been dealt with, we will investigate the cause.”

Fire Investigation have told us that they believe the cause is likely to be deliberate and are treating the incident as suspicious. Police are also at the scene conducting an investigation.
There were no electrics in the building or anything obvious that could have started the fire, although the building is so badly damaged it could be a while before this is confirmed.
