Firefighters tackle blaze on Bloom Street

Borough: Manchester

Incident Date: 15 July 2015

FORTY firefighters have tackled a fire in a takeaway in the heart of Manchester City Centre.

Crew from Manchester Central and the surrounding stations were sent to the blaze on Bloom Street at 11.21 this morning (Wednesday, July 15).

Firefighters in breathing apparatus fought the blaze, which had engulfed three floors and the roof of the building, from inside the property and from above using an aerial appliance

Bloom Street remains closed, but surrounding streets have now been reopened.

Group Manager Lee Coleman, said: “This was a serious fire and firefighters worked very hard to stop the blaze from spreading to adjacent buildings.  Thankfully there were no people involved in the incident.

“A number of roads were closed to help us fight this fire but most have been reopened.  It may be that there is still a small amount of traffic disruption so please avoid the area if you can.”

A full investigation is due to take place to establish the cause of the blaze.
