FIREFIGHTERS from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) were called to a high-rise block of flats in Old Chapel Street, Edgeley, after a fire broke out in a fifth-floor bedroom.
North West Fire Control received several calls to report the blaze shortly after 6pm on Saturday, October 8, 2016.
At the height of the incident around 35 firefighters and officers were in attendance and they tackled the fire using water jets while wearing breathing apparatus.
Station Manager Steve Twinn from GMFRS, who was in charge of the incident, said: “Firefighters worked hard to tackle the bedroom fire which was located on the fifth-floor of the eight-storey block of flats.
“The occupier of the flat involved in fire was out at the time and we have liaised with Stockport Homes due to a small number of flats within the block being affected by smoke.
“We believe the cause of the fire to be accidental, most likely by an electrical item within the bedroom.”
