Firefighters work with police at incident involving ‘unknown substance’

FIREFIGHTERS worked with officers from Greater Manchester Police to resolve an incident on Isaac Way in Manchester.

Reports of an unknown substance were made shortly after 9am on Saturday, March 7, 2015, resulting in firefighters and officers from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) being mobilised to the Ancoats address.

Station Manager Phil Nelson, who was in charge of the incident, said: “Officers and firefighters from GMFRS worked closely with police colleagues after an unknown substance was reported in a property on Isaac Way in Ancoats.

“A cordon was put in place with the situation being resolved as quickly as possible.”

Every Street, close to Isaac Way, was closed in the earlier stages of the incident and was re-opened before 11am.

Investigations found that the substance was not harmful, allowing the incident to be closed off a 12.30pm.
