North West Fire Control received a call at 3.03pm on Monday, July 27, to reports of the incident on Hulme Hall Road in the Castlefield area.

A number of appliances were sent to the scene and although nobody was reported unaccounted for, GMRFS worked with Greater Manchester Police to search the building as rough sleepers have been known to use it for shelter.

Specialist search teams, including the search and rescue dog Ace, along with GMFRS’ new Air Unit were used to carry out the search.

Station Manager Phil Nelson, who was in charge of the incident, said: “When firefighters arrived, they were confronted with a partial collapse of a four-storey derelict building.

“We have utilised every available opportunity to see if there is anyone inside and have not found anything.

“We are now working with building owners and building inspectors to secure the property and decide whether to demolish it.”
