CONTROL operators at North West Fire Control were inundated with calls to report a collision on the M62 on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 22, 2014.
Shortly after 2pm firefighters from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were sent to the motorway, between junctions 21 and 22, where a number of vehicles had been involved in a collision.
Station Manager Ian Tracey, from GMFRS, said: “We were called out after three large goods vehicles were involved in a collision that left a man trapped in the crew cab of one of the vehicles.
“Firefighters stabilised the vehicle and released the man using hydraulic cutting equipment, who was then taken to hospital by air ambulance.”
Two lanes of the motorway were closed while emergency services and the Highways Agency dealt with the incident and will remain closed while investigations take place.
