Incident Date: 20 April 2015
AROUND forty firefighters and officers from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were called to Salop Street after a large blaze broke out at a foundry.
North West Fire Control received reports several reports of the fire just before 3.15pm on Monday, April 20, 2015, with firefighters being sent to Shakespeare Foundry LTD from across Bolton.
The blaze tore through the three-storey building and roof and firefighters worked hard to surround the fire and stop it from spreading to other nearby businesses.
Group Manager Steve Sheridan, who was in charge of the incident at its height, said: “We were called to a serious fire at the foundry and the first crews on scene were greeted with a well-developed fire involving all levels and the roof.
“Firefighters used jets of water and an Aerial Appliance to contain the fire to the building involved and protect close by businesses.”
The incident was scaled down in the early evening and crew will remain in attendance throughout the night.
Station Manager Wayne Guffogg, who took charge of the incident in the early evening, said: “The incident was scaled down to three fire engines and it is likely that two will remain in attendance through the night with the Aerial Appliance.
“We are now stripping away parts of the roof in order to reach pockets of fire inside the building.”
An investigation into the cause of the blaze will take place.
