Firefighters tackle Salford building fire

Borough: Salford

Incident Date: 19 August 2015

AROUND thirty five firefighters were called upon after a fire broke out at a block of Salford flats.

North West Fire Control received reports of the fire at 4.05am on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, and mobilised six fire engines to the four-storey building located off Eccles Old Road.

The fire involved the basement of the flats that were under renovation and crew wearing breathing apparatus brought the blaze under control using hosereels.

Station Manager Mark Threader, who was in charge of the incident, said: “Crew members have tackled a fire involving the basement of a Victorian building which has caused some fire damage to the first-floor and smoke damage throughout the building.

“The incident was scaled down about an hour or so in and the most likely cause of the fire is electrical.”
