A TWENTY-six-year-old owes his life to his seatbelt and airbag, firefighters at Bolton said today.
It comes as the crew from Bolton North Fire Station returned from a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) in Tonge Moor Road at around 3.30pm, where a car flipped over, landing on its roof on garden walls.
Watch Manager Neil Mercer said the driver had a lucky escape: "The car was severely damaged.
"It was fortunate the driver was wearing his seatbelt and that the airbags went off. He managed to get himself out after crawling through a smashed window. He was extremely lucky."
Firefighters made the scene safe and left it in the hands of police and paramedics.
Safety tip: Always wear your seatbelt and make sure all of your passengers put theirs on and keep them on. You're twice as likely to die in a crash if you're not wearing a seatbelt. Airbags are designed to work with seatbelts not instead of them. There are NO excuses for not wearing a seatbelt.
